Advanced Podology Consultation & Foot Assessment

Find the Real Cause Before It Gets Worse

Podology specialist performing an advanced foot care assessment in Rockville MD

Good foot care starts with a careful check. Foot pain, discolored nails, or calluses that keep coming back are often early signs of a bigger problem. At our Rockville center, the first consultation helps us find the exact cause of your discomfort and make a care plan just for you.

During the visit, we check the condition of your nails and skin. We don't just look at the surface — we look for what is causing the problem. This careful check makes sure your next steps — like fungal nail thinning or nail bracing — fit your feet exactly.

What to Expect During Your Evaluation:

  • Nail Health Screening: we spot early nail discoloration.
  • Pressure Mapping: we find deep calluses and corns.
  • Ingrown Assessment: we check if your nails are curving in.
  • Custom Blueprint: a step-by-step care plan for your feet.

Our Three-Step Podology Process

Sterile podology tools used during foot health assessment
1

Health & Foot Care History

We ask about your daily routine, how you cared for your feet before, and where it hurts. This helps us understand your situation.

2

Detailed Podological Inspection

With bright professional lighting and special tools, we carefully check for hidden cracks, tiny injuries, and nail damage. It does not hurt.

3

Actionable Restoration Strategy

You leave knowing what is going on with your feet and exactly which MedPedicure care will help.

Warning Signs: Who Needs a Foot Check?

Many foot problems grow quietly. Something that looks small — like a slightly thick toenail or a patch of dry skin that won't go away — can hide a deeper skin or nail problem. Book a full foot check at our Rockville clinic if you notice any of these:

Nail Discoloration or Thickening

Yellow, brittle, or lifting nails. They need to be checked before any restoring care.

Diabetic Foot Concerns

Diabetes can damage nerves and reduce feeling in the feet (neuropathy). Regular professional checks help catch tiny injuries you may not feel.

Recurring Calluses & Corns

Thick skin often means too much pressure in one spot when you walk, or shoes that don't fit well.

Pinch or Pain in Nail Folds

Early signs of curved or ingrown toenails that hurt in closed shoes.

Uncompromising Safety & Clinical Sterilization

When nails or skin are damaged, hygiene matters most. Unlike regular nail salons, we follow strict clinical standards to guarantee 100% cross-contamination prevention.

  • Medical-Grade Autoclaving

All metal tools are first cleaned in an ultrasonic cleaner. Then they are sterilized with high-pressure steam in a Class B medical autoclave, which destroys 99.99% of all germs.

  • Single-Use Pouches

Sterile tools are sealed in special pouches. We open them in front of you at the start of your visit.

  • Disposable Materials

Files, buffers, and all non-metal items are single-use. We throw them away right after your visit.

How Our Consultation Is Different From a Podiatrist Visit

A podiatrist is a foot doctor (DPM). They diagnose disease, prescribe medicine, and do surgery. Our consultation is the cosmetic side: we find what we can improve in how your feet look and feel, what we can't help with, and where to send you for that. Different jobs that work well together.

Podiatrist Visit

  • • Medical diagnosis (KOH test, biopsy, X-ray)
  • • Prescription medication
  • • Surgical intervention
  • • Ulcer / wound management
  • • Sports-injury treatment
  • • Usually covered by insurance
  • • Visit length: 15–30 min

Our Podology Consultation

  • • Visual + tactile assessment of feet
  • • Identification of cosmetic-side issues
  • • Honest scope check: us, podiatrist, or both
  • • A recommended plan with realistic timelines
  • • Pricing transparency upfront
  • • Self-pay, no insurance involvement
  • • Visit length: 30–45 min

If we see anything we can't treat — a possible infection, a suspicious spot on the skin, ongoing pain, or an open sore — we will tell you directly and recommend a podiatrist before any cosmetic work. We do not treat what we cannot ethically treat.

Smart Questions to Ask Before Booking Any Foot-Care Provider

Whether you book with us or somewhere else, ask these questions. The answers tell you a lot about whether the provider takes your feet seriously.

"Is your protocol waterless?"

A "yes" removes the biggest infection risk in pedicures. A "no, we use a basin" should make you careful if you have diabetes, nerve damage, or wounds that heal slowly.

"How do you sterilize instruments?"

A good answer mentions an autoclave (ideally Class B). UV boxes and chemical soaking are not the same. If they can't answer clearly, that is a red flag.

"Do you use blades for callus removal?"

"Yes" — fine for healthy feet, but a hard no if you have diabetes or nerve damage. We use a safer option: an e-file with cooling spray.

"What is outside your scope?"

Honest providers have a clear answer. Anyone who says "we handle everything" either doesn't know better or is just selling. Cosmetic foot care has real limits — open sores, infections, and suspicious spots should be seen by a doctor.

"Will you tell me if I should see someone else?"

The answer should be yes, with examples. We send about 1 in 8 consultation clients to a podiatrist before any cosmetic work. That is normal, and it is a sign of a provider you can trust.

Top 5 Problems We Find at Consultations

This is what we actually see at first visits, from most to least common. Many clients come in thinking they have one problem and learn that the real issue is different — or that several small problems are adding up.

38%

Onychomycosis (toenail fungus)

Clients often miss it or think it's "just thick nails." We notice the signs and send you to a podiatrist to confirm it before we start cosmetic nail thinning.

22%

Hyperkeratotic calluses & corns

People often think it's only cosmetic, but it points to a shoe or walking problem. We find where the pressure is so we can fix the cause, not just the symptom.

15%

Chronic or recurrent ingrown nails

Often caused by earlier salon nail trimming that cut the corners. Our approach: nail bracing for cases that keep coming back, and correct trimming for one-time cases.

14%

Cracked heels & fissures

Deep, moderate-to-severe heel cracks that look like "just dry feet." We check how deep they are and give you a realistic timeline to restore them.

11%

Suspicious findings → physician referral

Possible psoriasis, possible diabetes problems, unusual dark spots, or ongoing pain. We don't treat these — we tell you clearly and recommend the right specialist.

These numbers are approximate, based on our consultations in recent months. One client often has 2–3 of these at the same time.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to remove my nail polish before the assessment?
Yes, we recommend it. To check your nails carefully and look for signs of fungus, we need to see your natural nails. If you come with regular polish, we can remove it. But acrylic or hard gel must be professionally removed before your visit.
Does the consultation include a pedicure?
The first-visit fee of $60 covers a full check and your personal care plan. It does not include the pedicure itself. But if there is time and the plan is clear, we often start the care you need during the same visit.
Is the foot assessment painful?
Not at all. The first consultation is completely gentle. We look at your feet, check for calluses with pressure mapping, and gently examine your nails. Our priority is your comfort and building trust before any care begins.
Do you serve clients from Baltimore?
Yes. Clients often come to us from all over the Baltimore area — Federal Hill, Canton, Towson, Pikesville, Mount Washington, and more. The drive is about 45–55 minutes via I-95 and the Capital Beltway. See our Medical Pedicure in Baltimore page for routes, parking, and Baltimore FAQ.
